This Study is being initiated as a public service effort to provide pharmaceutical companies and public health institutions a body of documentation related to treatments and vaccines for Covid-19.

Description

This Study is directed to patent and non-patent literature and is intended to provide a corpus of documentation to assist researchers trying to develop treatment or vaccines for Covid-19 and/or technology enhancements to prevent transmission or provide protection from disease transmission. 

Please note that although we are providing financial rewards to those researchers who provide the best documents as described below, RWS is not being paid by any companies or clients for this Study and is doing it as a public service to provide aid for the global pandemic brought on by Covid-19.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  Other names include 2019-nCoV, acute respiratory disease, Novel coronavirus pneumonia, Wuhan pneumonia, and Coronavirus.

We are interested in documents describing vaccines for coronaviruses as well as treatment for coronaviruses.

Vaccines of interest are those directed to viruses in the family Coronaviridae that affect humans, e.g., those aimed at severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), coronovirus and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).

Treatments of interest include known approved antiviral medications or combinations that have been tried and/or are currently of interest for coronaviruses; possible treatment targets for new treatments directed specifically to covid-19, such as the ACE2 receptor to which the virus binds, the covid-19 spike protein, and proteins that are known to be used by the virus to replicate.

We are also interested in any novel ideas and materials that can be used to prevent disease transmission and/or protect people from the spread of the virus, such as masks, sanitizers, and the like.

Lastly, we are interested in scientific documents that describe the incubation period, transmission routes, genome, mutations and other aspects of Covid-19 specifically.

Please consider that we are not only looking for those documents easily obtainable by researchers, but more importantly the hard to find documents of which people may be unaware, such as doctoral and masters dissertations, foreign language journals and the like.  Be creative.

Research Requirements

  1. 1

    A vaccine involving antigens or antibodies to known coronaviruses, SARS or other respiratory viruses that may be cross-reactive with Covid-19.

    A vaccine targeting Covid-19, specifically.

  3. 3

    Currently approved antiviral treatments directed to coronaviruses, SARS or other respiratory viruses.

  4. 4

    Treatments based on ACE2 receptors or documents describing ACE2 receptors, such as the structure, function, binding properties or the like.

    Human proteins commonly used by coronaviruses to replicate, such as the structure, function and/or binding properties of such proteins or other potential targets for a covid-19 treatment, such as the covid-19 spike protein.

    Other methods for treating Covid-19 or reducing damage to lungs from covid-19 infection.

    Antibodies directed to Covid-19.

    Documents describing the COVID-19 virus specifically, such as incubation time, transmission route, genome, mutations, epidemiology, etc.

    Novel ideas and materials that can be used to prevent the spread of viruses and/or protect people from the spread of the virus, such as masks, sanitizers, and the like.

Reward Structure

A total of $6,000 in rewards is available. 

A winner will be selected for each of the 9 research requirements.  Each Winner will receive $500.

Rewards will be paid to Researchers who submit the best collection of responses.The best collection(s) will be determined by the total number of in-scope submissions and the overall quality and diversity of the collection. A Researcher may win more than one $500 reward.

An additional $1500 will be distributed as discretionary rewards among the Researchers who have contributed significantly to the study based on, for example, responsiveness to leads, and the accuracy of highlighting.

Study Guidelines

The Study will accept submissions until 12 noon ET on the indicated Expiration Date above. You may submit up to the submission limit indicated on your Activity Dashboard. Your submission limit for the Study may be increased based on the quality of your previous submissions for the same Study.

Highlights: When prompted by the submission form, you will be asked to highlight the sections of the document that best match the Research Requirements. Please follow any special instructions provided in the Research Requirements.  For this Study, each document should have only one highlight - the title. Please link this one highlight to only the 1 or 2 most relevant research requirements for that document.   Random, inaccurate or excessive highlights will not be accepted and will not be eligible for a reward. A submission is not eligible for Rewards if the highlights are marked as Unacceptable. For more information, please refer to our Researcher Manual.

Translations: A non-English submission must include an English translation of at least the highlighted section. If the reference appears to be relevant, a Reviewer may contact you for an extended translation.

The Researcher Agreement and all other eligibility requirements apply. Submissions may not be shared with other Researchers.
